Any Forum Suggestions

TRB on Sat January 01, 2005 3:59 PM User is offlineView users profile

Since its a new year I thought I would ask if there is anything we should try to add to the site or remove? Any and all suggestions will be looked at as long as the word penguin is not used in the sentence! I believe we have things covered pretty well with what we have now and with of of the support you provide! But if anyone has an idea or two we can kick around, why not hear about them!

Wonder what happened to D Andrews now that you mention it, he was working on oil and refrigerant capacities for various vehicles and error codes for various ATC equipped vehicles. Such charts would be useful.

Have not herd from him in years. Has not even posted in the BAT AUto Mech forum for a long time.

Oil and refrigerant capacities would be a nice addition. Problem for me at this time is time, I just do not have the extra time to create something like that. We all see the amount of times specifications are asked for so it is a great idea!

You could be an "equal opportunity" employer and give the Penguins a job in the shop which would give you more time....

Chick,

Tim said NOT to use the "P" word.

I know this might be nearly impossible, but is there any way we can have something similar to the old forum, where we can see the entire message thread, seeing who's responding to which portion of the thread? The way things are now, with replies listed in sequential order, it's difficult to see exactly who a poster is specifically replying. Also with the old format, it was much easier to see new replies - much easier to gather NickD's always valuable comments.

I realize this is likely not possible with your current software, but that would be my wish.

Otherwise there is hardly anything you could ask of this wonderful forum.

Happy New Year and thanks so much for this forum!

Joe

Upper right corner is a drop down menu, topic view. Play with that and see if that helps. Other wise a change in forum program would be needed. Personally I dislike that old BB format. Runs on and on and replied posts never come back to the top. So during the busy season a 2 day old post could get lost unless you are search the whole site for responses.

I suppose generating an oil and refrigerant capacity would be a major job with a disclaimer also needed, the first question would be, how far to go back. Hard to believe we had MVAC for almost 50 years now not including the rare ones like in a 1939 Packard. Oil capacity is the big problem, heck with refrigerant capacity, wait for a warm day and charge by pressures.

I like this board the way it is, if even someone adds something to a thread posted last year, that thread pops up to the top.

I also like the today's post feature. That is the only icon I select anymore as it shows new or replied posts for all forums for the last 24 hours.

Now that I've been around for a few years and seen different forums, I'd have to admit that this isn't my favorite. I'm really fond of phpBB, a free forum program that runs fairly well - it's the one we use at http://forums.hostmysite.com. Other than that though FuseTalk (this forum) would be my second choice.

Joe,
Tim just gets lost on our site, so he has to have it structured so he never gets lost.

Ha ha, Tim you knew that was coming.

But that is some of the points we are trying to get squared away too.

Too bad someone can't come up with a forum program where it has all those features and you can choose between the different styles. LOL!

Hey, BTW Tim, what happened to the avatars?

Has anyone of you tried changing the format here using the "topic View" in the first post? Pretty much gives you a similar feel as to the BAT Auto Board. This style is just the default and can be changed to any of the different views if you guys like one better. Threaded singular seems to be closest to the BAT format to me!

Ha, if you say something stupid on bat, have to live with a red face for a couple of days until that post gets buried in the deep end where nobody seems to go, once you submit, you are dead, no way to correct it, but can add a correcting post. Have to put a note on your monitor not to use the browser back button and as the threads pile up, the refresh time gets longer and longer.

Some very knowledgeable mechanics on that site, picked up quite a few tips, but maybe good to avoid some subjects like how frequently you should change your brake fluid, LOL.

I feel like Tim made a good choice in selecting Fusion, very well organized though at first, had to get use to it like anything else that was new at the time and bat does not print out the IP address to save a guy from getting SPAM or attracting hackers. Both sites are helpful and well monitored with a general "G" rating, my two favorite sites. Still thousands of sites out there using the worse language in the world with plenty of personal attacks.

Thanks for the good job, Tony and Tim.

So I guess making fun of Penguins doesn't count as a personal attack? :-)

It's a site requirement! But I really would like to know if anyone has played with the topic view and found one selection over another? Seems we also lost some site traffic since the domain change but I expected that to happen.

Fetch you working on my stats and email programs yet?
