Server Updates

TRB on Mon February 14, 2005 9:07 PM User is offlineView users profile

Our service provider sent the following message for 2/15/05. "We will be performing maintenance between 02:00am and 06:00am EDT and the approximate downtime that will be incurred is 30-45 minutes".

So if anyone has trouble logging early in the morning this should be the cause.

Ha, won't be able to read this message unless you can log in, but wonder what kind of maintenance is performed, and don't these guys that do it ever sleep?

Speaking about servers, getting a bit burnt by mine, they came they have a new 384KB/sec download, ha try downloading IE 6 during the day and even get 2KB/sec, but they jacked up the price ten bucks per month. Then they added ten worthless commercial ladden music video channels to the digital cable and jacked up the cable price another 20 bucks a month. No option either take it or leave it.

My wife saw a Netscape net commercial on TV last night for only $9.95 a month and asked why I didn't switch to that. Told her I got a similar CD Rom in the mail from MS for the same amount, but the small print said to use their 800 number at ten cents per minute that also meant going back to the phone modem. If the computer is left on the net for 12 hours, that is 72 bucks per day for phone bills, not exactly cheaper.

I called my old server, a really nice guy, private, he is going to a 700 MHz wireless system, but didn't quote me a monthly price yet and I am sure looking into DirectTV.

We have a cable TV committee in town, called them, but they have no say on either billing nor programming, had to ask, what else is there? What a worthless committee that is.

I'm sure you know this but server updates and internet access are 2 completely different issues. I run cable broadband at the house and wireless at the office. Cable was the best until more homes in the area got on board. Think I'll be looking into Wi-Fi connections in the future.

There's a new Wi-Fi setup in town called Clearwire. I've been trying it out and it works pretty good. Go to Clearwire.

Tempe Arizona plans on making the entire city Wi-Fi compatible. This will be a fun issue to watch in my opinion.
