What could be done to get A/C stopleak banned and took off the market.

There's a lot of DIYers nowadays putting this crap into their systems and before long,(if not already),
half the vehicles out there will be contaminated.

Something needs to be done, and soon as possible.

Like everything else brickmason. Hire a lawyer, and make sure you have Millions of Dollars.....The makers allready have Lawyers, and they have very DEEP pockets.

Besides, with people using all the different alternative refridgerants, like Nick said, alot will be contaminated anyway...because of the R12 scam...

A guy that ruins his AC system with all these additives can always tell his mom for all the good the government will do. We want less government, right? The FTC is history for protecting the consumer, the FCC also lost any power it had and advise you take your issue up with that company through normal legal channels, foreign countries are buying our media and brainwashing us, Fox wouldn't even be around if the old FCC was still intact and neither would Sony. The EPA loves it when you wreck your vehicle so you get that old polluting piece of crap off the road, so don't look to them. OE and aftermarket suppliers are only interested in what you are doing during the warranty period, who cares after that. The FDA? How much money do you want to spend to get approval?

But do we really need all these government agencies to protect us? Ha, was working on the radio on a Ford yesterday, manual says to remove the negative battery cable first, but couldn't remove the radio because the gear shift lever was in the way, and couldn't take it out of park because the negative battery was disconnected, ignition has to be on with the brake pedal depressed before it can be released. And when it's out of park, can't turn the ignition switch off so have to listen to that beeping sound that can drive a guy nuts. These are the solutions we get when someone wins a law suit stating that it's the manufacturers fault for their stupid driving habits.

Course, if you put sealant in your AC system, it was going bad anyway and that is the reason why you have a problem, not the sealant.

Not sure what Tim can do, will be interesting to find out.

Tim

I think Nick has most of the answers but there is also the fact that those cans of snot generate millions in repair revenue for dealers and independent service shops, so where is the incentive to get them off the market?

I see a quote fairly often on the net that about sums it up.

Stupid should hurt. (or in this case cost you big)

Nah, it matches your thinking perfectly!

Mine's fuzzy, you have failed us for many years. Your generation created a huge debt which is just being passed on to future generations. Social security was created during your watch. All I will ever see out of it is my money going to you older guys! Your liberal pals won't let us take back control of our cash as it would mean another failure on their part.

I see the Mayor of New Orleans now says the buses were not used because there were no drivers. Why is it so hard for a liberal to admit fault and be accountable for their actions. I'm sure I will get a reply as to why someone else did this or that but lets get this question answered first before moving on to the next!

See I fix the banner for you BigChris and not even a thank you.

Well, I guess as far as getting stop leak took off the market, may as well not expect it to happen.
Probably be around from now on, because in this world it's not who you are, it's who you know and how much money you have.

As I've done my whole life, just trying to help people.

Only service my own vehicles A/C and trusting family members, as I do not want my gauges and equipment anywhere near that crap.

Thing is sealer does not fall under any category which the EPA or any other body I know of can use to enforce the removal. This stuff has made people a lot of money and the marketers will never let it go if they have their way. Heck I know a few people that manufacture this stuff and we have debated its use many times. All of them claim its the other product that causes the issues.
Heck there was one auto a/c trade magazine which covered sealers. In my opinion the article pretty much gave these products a thumbs up.

Tim,

What do you mean by the other product causing an issue. R134a ?

No, the types of sealers. One expands the o-rings and is said to be less harmful. One reacts to moisture which is the one I believe has caused the most problems. But like I said both claim the other is the bad one. I will never use these products and protect our equipment so hopefully we are covered!

You seem to forget that the debt was erased during slick willy's tour and dubya started with a healthy surplus (thanks in large part to Newt Gingrich's Pact with America - remember?). Things went downhill from there.

Are you old enough to remember the hearings held after the Watergate scandal led by Sam Erwin of North Carolina? That is what is needed here with all the testimony recorded for posterity and televised so everyone can watch.

You did a fantastic job of correcting that banner ad and I appreciate the months of work you put into it. Thank you very much! Unfortunately it took me a while to see it because my browser kept pulling the misspelled version from cache, but once past that hurdle the improvement is obvious.

Here's a
URL you might find interesting.
