GM High Side Fitting & Right Angle Fittings

mileena on Wed October 19, 2005 8:48 PM User is offline

Hi, I was wondering for those special GM cars 1992 and up that require you to remove the old R-12 high-side fitting before putting the R-134a one on, will removing the fitting ruin the vaccum in the system, thereby preventing you from recharging with R-134a?

Also, can you remove this fitting by hand, or do you need a wrench?

And are those special right-angle fittings ever necessary? Because none of the retrofit kits I have seen include these, so I assume they are more of a luxury, than really necessary. IOW, would the standard, straight fittings work for all cars and all recharge hoses?

Thanks!

You need a lot of reading, and I would suggest Mastercool's repair manual to start and yes, removing any shrader valve or fitting will allow air into the system. Do it right and you'll do it once..Or use a death kit and we'll wind up doing it for you...

Thanks Chick! I will take a look at that book! I do know that Interdynamics says their kits are safe, and they have had no complaints at all. The leak sealer will not ruin any compressor.

16. Does this Interdynamics Retrofit Kit actually work?

Yes!

Since 1996, we've sold over 20 million? Interdynamics retrofit kits and components, many by the top automotive accounts in the industry, with virtually NO USER COMPLAINTS.

9. Are Interdynamics leak sealers safe for my A/C system? What does "System Safe" leak sealer mean?

Yes. Interdynamics’ “System Safe” leak sealer is a gentle o-ring conditioner that does not destroy o-rings.

well, when my kids were young they did believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the Tooth fairy...So Iguess you can blieve what you want too. Did you ever see a product that said on the label, " use this, it won't work?" Please, go to their site and ask the questions..Oh, thats right, they don't have a question board. They ask and answer their own questions...Wonder why....
