The fugitives were apprehended during a roundup that Attorney General Greg Abbott's Fugitive Unit conducted in late November and December.
Nine of the suspects were arrested in Houston.
According to the attorney generalâÂÂs office, they tracked down the fugitives with information from FEMA.
âÂÂTexans rightly opened our arms and hearts our Louisiana neighbors as they fled the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. But even as we provided a refuge for evacuees in need, we will not allow fugitives from the law to exploit the situation by hiding in our state, â Attorney General Abbott said.
The 13 arrested fugitives were found after the Attorney GeneralâÂÂs Fugitive Unit identified 29 Louisiana fugitives on the FEMA list who were wanted for or convicted of violent crimes.
Those fugitives included three wanted for homicide, seven for assault and aggravated assault, seven for rape or sexual offenses and others wanted for various other violent crimes.
