Weekly Tip Pages: 12

Russell on Tue December 20, 2005 11:20 AM User is offlineView users profile

Tim,
Should we have a discussion section for each weeks topic? As an inquisitive amature I would find it very helpful if you also explained or discussed possible repairs. For instance this week my question would be........Is the hissing compressor totally "shot" or is there a $35 repair possible?

You can ask all the questions you like be it related to the tip of the week or not. Might help people if you reference a certain tip if that is what generated the question. If it is a reed valve issue I would suggest replacement of the compressor. If hissing is a gasket issue those can be replace in most cases.

I'm going to open that forum to posting so you all may follow up with questions per a certain tip.

That's what I was hoping. As an amature I can tell you that all possible questions pertaining to a single subject, grouped in one area, is a tremendous learning aid. Again.....Thanks for being here!

Hey, I know that WRAL weather report, are you in the triangle area? Looks like we're in for an unseasonably warm Christmas.

And Chick, you're in Union? I grew up in Elizabeth... my Grandmother's house bordered on Union county next to Cain College. Small world.

Bigchris on Thu December 22, 2005 10:43 AM User is offline

You betcha! I live on the west side of Cary about 6 miles from Apex, but I was born in New Brunswick and worked in Elizabeth and Newark before coming down here.

No, Union is in Essex County, and I live in Union City, which is Hudson county. I am familiar with Union and Elzabeth though.. Take Rt 22 right into it...

I'm on the other side of town, in Orange County outside of Hillsborough. And you came here from Elizabeth, too? What a very small world...

Ah, you got me there... I haven't thought about the NJ counties in decades. I do remember Rt 22 very well-- is it still a deathtrap (from a non-NJ driver point of view )

Chick on Thu December 22, 2005 12:06 PM User is offlineView users profile

I think NJ is known for it's "death trap" roadways. Rt 22 has had some improvements, but drivers haven't improved.. So yes, still a "few" fatalites on it each year...

Ahh, but let's not forget the ubiquitous concrete highway barriers, Taylor Ham and Tastycake Cupcakes!

mhamilton on Thu December 22, 2005 4:44 PM User is offlineView users profile

My father finally found a guy in Burlington that can get Taylor ham... but I personally don't eat the stuff. Now good Genoa salami is another story. I have that sent down as often as possible. Some of the stuff they call "salami" in the stores around here I wouldn't feed to my dog! I have also yet to find good bagels in this state.

It's a good thing the peace and quiet make up for those disadvantages.

That Rt 22 brings back some memories... can you imagine a little old lady, 4'5" trying to peek over the wheel of a 1960 Buick Electra, 400ci engine, barreling down Rt 22 I don't know how my Grandmother managed to not wreck that car!

Bigchris on Fri December 23, 2005 1:35 AM User is offline

The local Harris Teeter carries Taylor Ham and Bruegger's Bakery sells passable bagels but I'd give anything to find some decent hard rolls (Kaiser rolls). I used to start every day with a buttered hard roll and coffee and mornings just don't start right without them. I can relate to your granny with my mother, but thankfully she had enought fear of Rt. 22 to stay off it. On the other hand, I couldn't resist Two Guys from Harrison, Channel Lumber and Rickel's.
