Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and String Theory.

NickD on Wed September 06, 2006 7:33 AM User is offline

Ha, did get my start in education, endless fruitless arguments on theory, grading papers, and low pay, but seems like some have time to play with rather expensive equipment that was not available to the public. Like trying to make a computer model of a galaxy using traditional Einsteinium and Newtonian equations in the model only to find out, that galaxy will fly apart. Not enough gravity to hold that spiral together with a predicted 96% of the mass missing so a conclusion is that matter is missing, and a matter can exist that cannot be seen so given the name, dark matter. After all we can't see stuff when it's dark.

And maybe it's not matter that is holding the galaxies together, could be some form of a dark energy as well, something is holding it together!

The what laws do we use? A different set of laws exists for sub atomic particles in quantum mechanics as do the laws that hold the planets and stars together in astrophysics. Shouldn't these laws that govern attraction between objects be the same? So we now have string theory, or using the proverbial string to hold stuff together.

Or maybe it's just poor programming using readily available software.

Anyway, sounds like these guys are having fun with pure speculation, and times have changed, really getting some decent paychecks today and some notoriety on TV. Love it when they say, we may find answers tomorrow, in the next twenty years, or never. Makes me think back working for industry where everyday there was stress to show your boss, something was done, and the deadlines will be met. Ha, with several times, beating your brains to death only to find out your company was sold and you don't have a job anymore. Or you have a job in some ungodly forsaken place where you don't want to bring your family.

But all this shows, we know very little about our surroundings, we can't even agree on why we were put here, we have a lot to learn. Ha, maybe Chick can figure out what ID is doing.

Discovery channel lost one star, the Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead. A string ray won that battle.

What they are doling is making a furtune off "unsuspecting" people who for the most part, have lost confidence in mechaincs, (and rightly so in many cases) some are just cheap, some want to learn, but find the "cans" faster than real help. But all of the above and many more senarios just keep putting hard earned bucks into the magic mans pockets..I am so "not" for regulation or "government" regulations of any kind, but I can see where laws are meant to protect the truly ignorant and in many cases , sadly, are needed.. The rich get richer, and as PT Barnum once said, "there is a sucker born every minute"...How true...These companies survive on this..

My above comments are not meant to offend anyone...But...It's the world as I see it...

Hey, I have it all figured out. Death kits are holding the galaxy together. Let's call it "dark glue". So Nick, can I get co-author on the paper?

I keep wondering how long it will take for a class action damages suit to materialize. Can't tell you how many irate customers I've seen demanding refunds at the parts stores for these magic elixirs that didn't do a darn thing. And the poor schmuck behind the counter telling them there is nothing they can do because the fine print "explains" that the product "might" not be all that is required.

The product may be legal, but it's just as disingenuous to market this crap as it would be ATF mixed with sawdust to "seal leaks" and "quiet" noisy transmissions.
