Just can't stop! Pages: 12Last

Well it's been 6 months or more and it was time for an addition. Don't think some will understand especially you blokes over in the UK. But as many of you know I enjoy riding mountain bikes. Helps control the diabetes and it's just out right fun. We also have a great canal system in Phoenix for biking. Contrary to Top Gear you won't get shot if you leave your house. Well if you are a Phoenix cop and run into an illgeal you might! Since I converted one of my bikes to a single speed. I no longer had anything to ride the canals with. So today I purchased what is called a cross bike. Basically a road bike but with stronger parts to handle dirt roads.

Looks kind of like my bike, solid suspension, very narrow seat, and drop down handlebars. I am kind of an old square, so I got a wider seat, and upright handlebars to take the strain off my back, and let me see who I am going to hit without straining my neck. Natural position with drop down handlebars is to look at the front wheel, maybe okay for racers seeking less wind resistance, feel like I need more comfort. Ha, you also need a German Shepherd dog to run along side of you, had as many as three at a time, but one is enough. German Shepherds love to run, that is at least what I tell my dog.

I'm a black lab fan myself. People get real upset out here with dogs off the leash on trials. Personally I have never had an issue with a dog on a trial or any where else.

I keep my dog on the leash, LOL, have to, it's the law. My wife likes Black Labs too, we went pup hunting and saw several plus their parents, could have taken their parents home with me, ha, they don't care as long as you pet and feed them. But we got Derik instead, a real German, Geman Shepherd, he is a one family dog and is here to protect her, wife loves him, now, didn't at first, she was afraid of him. But I told him, she is his mistress, and he better take good care of her.

Tim:

A friend here has a half breed bike we refer to as a "powerglide". He is running a single speed freewheel in the rear, with a chain tensioner made from the box o' broken parts. The crank still has two sprockets - high & low range. Low enough for a serious climb, and the high end when you have level ground. Makes a decent road bike for a dual-sport.

On a side note, I have proven that a CatEye bike computer will register accurately all the way to 140 mph... Just not on a bicycle!

Those bike computers are amazing for the little bit of money they cost and can be adjusted to one part in 2,500 for speed and distance plus a whole bunch of other parameters involving crank speed, timing functions, and even your ticker is working. Too bad they don't make automotive speedometers like that and if you have an electronic one, can cost a bundle just to get it fixed.

Aren't all puppies precious?

But then they grow up to look something like this.

I wonder about GPS, first it was highly classified, now anyone can use it, even our enemies to pipe a missile into one of our chimneys. FAA wouldn't have anything to do with it, they don't like equipment they don't have complete control over, now that is changing as well. Seems to me, we, or is it they, are putting all their eggs in one basket.

GPS is a great tool for me. I can import a trial and just follow the waypoints. Nice to be able to go to Moab and not have to worry about get lost. Plus standard bike computers just get destroyed on a mountain bike. I had a Cat Eye that worked well. But GPS is so much nicer and a good unit is not that expensive these days.

What kind of GPS receiver do you have?

This one, but there are much better buys than this one for general use.

GPS used to be pretty expensive, for me anyway...Then I found This one on sale at my local Pathmark (Grocery chain) for $175.00..On weekends a couple of my friends and I go for rides up in New York State, looking for "History" like old cemeteries with Revolutionary war soldiers, civil war places or places listed on the "weird new jersey" web site, or just out for a ride. I can't believe all the fetures it has..You can check a place out, get the longitude and latitude when you're there, and look it up on Google earth when you get home.. Lots of fun..And once you punch in the address you want to go to, it talks you right to the front door, even correcting itself should you make a wrong turn by accident or on purpose.. I can't see how I did without a GPS before..This winter will much more fun....

Oh, and it's really interesting to find graves of people who died in the 1700's and try to read the writing on their tombstones like the one we found yesterday in Monroe New York..Have to wonder how they lived with nothing of what we have today..Some into their 70's and 80's.. Guess I just love history...
This guy died in 1737, before the american revolution...

Believe me Tim, in this area (NY/NJ) you don't run out of places to see "rich in history".. And I can't walk very far anymore, so I don't have to look in those HOT hell holes like you have (Although in another week I'll be wishing for heat) It's just amazing that the prices of those things came down so much,. Have friends who spend close to a grand for theirs a few years ago, and other than a bigger screen, don't do anything else.. Yesterday we traveled the "Haunted" Clinton Road in West Milford new jersey.. (As a goof of course) but I pulled over and took the long/lat of this area where there were a couple houses just to see how accurate it was. Showed the place I was parked in front of the one driveway with nothing around but forest for miles...Of course the tweo houses too...

One thing I would like to do is travel our country. Lots of places to mountain bike across this land of ours. Figure I can pick up a RV like Nick's and just say the hell with it I'm going riding.

My guys have no clue how to run payroll, pay the Clinton's, post payables, post receivables, pay vendors correctly, fight for credits, shit the list could go on and on. Sad thing is, since I have been doing this for a while and make it look easy. They think it's easy!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I gave up on it all a month ago, sold my house in England and moved to Sweden. Got myself a cheap house on the country for pocket money, loaded my stuff up on a big trailer, and spent 30 hours on the road driving up through France, Belguim, Holland, Germany, Denmark, and finally up into Sweden.

The lucky dogs got to fly out here due to rabies laws.

Best decision I ever made, as no worries about work, taxes, bills, and not to mention the stupid government. I've spent the first month sorting out the house and the dog kennels, getting my ID number and card, bank accounts etc. Next week I go back to school to learn the Swedish on a free government course for immigrants, 'cos now I'm an immigrant! The only difference is I'm not asking for anything.

It's a beautiful country, with hardly any people or traffic, virtually no crime, and they love the English. There's not many places you can say that about anymore.

We've had a good bit of snow, but I got myself some studded tyres so I can get around. And best of all I can go hunting whenever I like. Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of beautifull women here - unfortunately I'm no better looking than when I left England.

Interesting, very interesting, been looking for a good spot, course couldn't take a trailer, my wife had to make the decision for her move and just brought the stuff we could carry on the airlines. But she has got lot's of stuff now, and you need is cash and that is easy to carry. Care to disclose which town you are near? Would like to look into it. Already crossed a bunch of countries off my list, didn't look at Sweden yet and any country smart enough to stick with studded snow tires is good enough for me. Salt season is upon us again, dreading that.

congratulations Dave on the move. Wonder if they will accept an American???? Lord knows if Hillary makes into office this country is doomed! Go to love a line from Hillary I heard the other day. "I have a million ideas. The country can't afford them all"

Nick, I'm near a town called Ulricehamn, about an hour from Gothenburg. There's not much here, but I'm no teenager so don't need to be dancing the night away!

There's a bit of an ongoing debate about studded tyres. They use salt on the main roads down to -6 degC, but round here they just plough and grit. The people in the cities moan about the dust from the studs, but they don't have to drive on packed snow or wet ice. As Ulricehamn is by a lake, they don't use any salt due to run-off. So all the roads into town go downhill, with no studs there's no stopping.
