Sage advice needed

1981 F100 factory air. Back in '96 I replaced the OEM compressor/tube/accumulator due to compressor death. At that time I had to also replace the evaporator due to a pin-hole leak. Now it's 14yrs later. System lasted 15yrs the first time, now I'm preparing for this time. I bought a Seltec compressor a few years ago when it was on sale as a replacement for when the York gives up this time. I intend to change the hoses this time.....them being 29yrs old and all....but I've not dealt making AC hoses before. All the ends are crimped, so can't be used again. What is the least expensive way to replace them? Back when I was still working I could have borrowed a Hyd crimper, but not any more. Money is a big object, with me being retired and on SS. More than likely my truck will outlive me, so I wanna be cool as I continue[/] ....
What kind of hose fittings are available and how well do they do the job? I have a new accumulator in my cart, but don't know what to do for the hoses.....
I've considered changing to 134, and that conversion has worked well on my Cadillac for the past 12 or so years, I'm kinda leery of doing it on the truck. Still have 3-14oz cans of R12. Right now the system is low on gas, but I don't want to crack a can just to top the old system off..... My creed: "if it ain't broke/don't fix it", so I'm in a quandary about this. Sage needed to advise. Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.
