R12 recover/recycle machine

Dave in Texas on Tue August 17, 2010 10:08 AM User is offlineView users profile

I've been looking for used machine and question is: some/most/all listed as R12/R22 capable. If used once/more than once in the past for R22 is that a problem when I want only to use for R12 automotive systems? I want an R12 machine that I can recover and then reuse that refrigerant. I realize it's a 'pig in a poke' purchase when buying anything used, but if I happen across one I can afford and the seller seems trustworthy....

(I see many new/used machines listed as doing both functions, but some sellers are listing fraudulent claims for machines only capable of recovery)

Came extra-close to buying a used Steenburgh CV-15, but figured it was an over-kill for mvac purpose. Hellofa deal for buyer though...maybe.

I finally got a chance to check with a friend at an RRR manufacturer. You can use one of these older machines for R12 even if it has previously been used with R-22. You just have to be sure all the R-22 is purged from the system before using it with R-12. HTH
