Year: 1998
Make: chevy
Model: malibu
Engine Size: 3.1
Refrigerant Type: r134
Ambient Temp: 84
Pressure Low: 140
Pressure High: 150
Country of Origin: United States

Hey guys, the wifes malibu's a/c had gone out. everything is working fine, clutch is engaging, orifice tube is clean all fuses and relays ok. Not sure what the preasure should be? When I hooked my gauges up it had about 150 on the low and like 200 on the high. Dont know what could be wrong. Any help would be great. -Joe.

Are you sure the "wheels" on the manifold set were closed? Are you sure the compressor is engaging?? You pulled the O tube out to look at it?? If so, did you pull a deep vacuum and recharge the system amount back into the vacuum?? You need to answer these questions..I ask because you say the O tube is clean, and since it's inside the system, you had to open it. And the recharge has to be done correctly. If everything was done right, and no air in the system etc.. You appear to have a bad refrigerant control valve in your compressor. It can be changed but the system "MUST" be empty..It's held in with a snap ring. The location is in the below pic..Hope this helps.

Thanks Chick. I found what the problem was. My gauge set wasnt working right. The valve on the high side was stripped so it was open and not closed making the preasure on the low side sky rocket. I did check everything else in the system. Im a mechanic and was trying to figure out just what the hells going on, ive covered everything I could think of but never thought that my Snap On gauge set would be junk, good thing hes coming by monday, lol. Thanks for the help. -Joe.

The nice thing about snap on is they come to your shop..And you wind up always owing them money... As far as AC parts and equipment, check out AcKits.com as they handle the entire "Mastercool" line and you really can't beat their prices.. Not to mention they bring this help board to you...Glad you found the problem..Knew there was something wrong with those pressures....

Mastercool makes most of Snap-On a/c tools. But like chick said it good since they come to you at a healthy price. Never cared to much for Snap-On due to the cost but they do have some nice tools..

I also am not very fond of Snap On prices but if you want the best you got to pay for it. I also buy MAC and some Craftsman stuff but the the Snap On guy is always on time every week wether I owe him money or not. Thanks again guys for the help, I also will try to help on this forum as to repay the help given. -Joe.
