How to clean off UV dye?

kourso on Fri August 24, 2007 1:58 AM User is offline

Hey guys,
How do you clean off old UV dye. I found some but I think, I am not positive though, that it is old dye and I want to clean it off. What is the best way to remove it so I can see if it reappears. I am looking for an unknown freon leak. I check the evap. core water and it was clean, no UV dy in it. That is very good right? And I sniffed the evap. core drain line elbow and no sign of a leak, but the a/c system has been off for 5 1/2 hr or so, does that matter. The system has a good charge.
Thanks,
Kenny

you can buy the official dye cleaner stuff- or just use simple green or the like-- any chenical degreasers also work- but they will set off an electronic leak detector right away. Any dye that is spilled out side the vehicle- like on my wife's white astro van- will fade completely in a week or so after some good sunlight- no cleaner known to man would remove it off her paint-- but time and sunlight took care of it- and got me out of trouble.......

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Will simple green or the degreasers like Autozone stuff glow with a UV light? If I remember right, the A/Z degreaser may have glowed before when I used it. Maybe I will try simple green or what about that orange cleaner or Kaboom ?
I will look to see if Autozone has any UV dye remover, anybody know what it is made out of ?
I just want to clean everything off to take a fresh look at things.
I did check the evap. core drain water with a strong UV light and IT DID NOT HAVE ANY GLOW AT ALL and I do have the yellow/green UV dye in the system. Doesn't that confirm that my evap. core is ok ???????
Please let me know,
Thanks guys,
Kenny
Thanks,
Kenny
