Whos Compressor To Buy

unkie on Sun August 26, 2007 11:33 AM User is offline

Year: 1990
Make: Mercury
Model: Grand Marquis
Engine Size: 5.0L
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Country of Origin: United States

I am new, so please bear with me. I am replacing the 10PA17A compressor on my car. I am amazed at the price range of new and reman. compressors. I can get a new Motorcraft yc-70 for about $220. I see remanufactured units selling for as much as $400 from the same suppliers. What's wrong with this picture? Does anyone out there have any recomendations? I am suspicious of any Chinese made parts, but no one says where there compressors are made. I have always thought that a new part should be better than a rebuild. If the rebuilt is better, who are the best rebuilders? So far I have found new units from Motorcraft, ACDelco, UAC, Visteon, Ready-Aire, and others that I can't remember. Who's would you buy?

i would for sure reccomend a new over any reman, any day. there are subtle differences with lets say a shaft and a radial seal on it, before it was remanned, in its past life, that seal wore into the shaft a little, well the shaft is expensive, and the reman company would let it go with the same shaft, so the clearance, or preload if you will on the seal is less, out of the box before you even use it, where as new, all parts are fitting as tightly as possible, and work together. especially if you can get the motorcraft brand, a company that can stand behind its warranty better.

Thanks For The Reply! Motorcraft seems to be readily available and also about the cheapest. This makes me wonder if Ford has outsourced these parts to China. Would you recommend the Motorcraft brand over the others? I know that 134a is hard on compressors, so I am looking for the best one.

I have searched far and wide. I have found new compressors ranging from $214 to $465. Arizona Mobile Air sells theirs for $291. I have dealt with them before and been very happy with their service. I am just confused by the situation. PartsAmerica sells a new Visteon (Who?) compressor for $385.99 while a remanufacured Visteon goes for $397.99. This seems very strange to me.

I have used many New Visteon compressors w/o any trouble.

Do you know where they are manufactured?

Remans are made to work with R134a and R12, but who remans them is the tricky part. You can't go wrong with "any" part from Ackits.com. They stand behind their productrs, and will be there to answer your questions. Send an e-mail to Jack at Ackits.com and he will answer your questions as to which they feel is the best for the money you want to spend.. Lets face it, if you buy it from SAY, parts america, can you ask a question about it on their board??? Humm... Not a hard question to answer is it...

There are a few companies importing "counterfit" compressors from China and other countries. A "NEW" delco for that price is suspect, just beacuse of the name being "AcDelco" If you know what I mean..I stand behind my first answrer.. Deal with a company "Known" for taking care of it's customers, and who has a message board should any problems come up..But that said, you can be sure if you buy elsewhere, you'll still get help here..Thats the kind of company Ackits.com is..Choice is yours, hope you make the right one.. For me, therre is only one choise..
Stay away from the Fab four sold by chain stores. Ready air, four seizins, Murry and everco...All the same company, and go down the same line..But that just my opinion...FWIW

Thanks Chick.

I suspected that there must be some counterfitting going on. If something on the internet sounds to good to be true... When I looked a couple of years ago, AZ Mobile Air did not offer a new unit for this application. Glad to see that they now do. I have dealt with them before and been very pleased. I would still like to know who makes their new unit. I have emailed them and await their reply. Thanks Again. Richard

Visteon make stuff for Ford, I suspect that Ford may have an interest in them but I am a little confused...If you have a Denso compressor then why are you intending to fit a Visteon or for that matter any other brand? I would be surprised if Delco/ Visteon or any other such company would bother to rebuild any compressor and would suggest that any such compressor will have been farmed out to a company who specialises in rebuilds and simply has their name on the box... Use a supplier who has a geezer on the telephone who can deal with your queries... Any other suppliers have a free at the point of use website, manned by some of the best ac guys in the business??

Thanks For Your Reply Karl. I have not been able to find a new Denso unit. My guess is that it would be the best available.

I think that it would be logical to assume that a New 10PA17A would be made by Denso. Why not email the guys and ask? I'm sure that they could clear up any doubt in an instant...

I emailed yesterday and await a reply. The denso website does not indicate that Denso still makes the 10pa17a. Maybe this is why there are so many different substitutes available. If ACKits.com can supply an actual Denso unit for $291, I will probably buy 2 of them.

I'll see what I can do but we do not play price war games with others. Too much fake crap out there with sources using the same part number as the quality stuff. You either buy from us because you believe in the products and service we offer or you don't. Nothing wrong with shopping around so don't take my comments as I coming down on you. We would very much appreciate you support. But I'm not cutting prices to compete against ebay or someone working out of their basement or garage.

I'm not trying to beat down the price, $291 is the price on the ackits.com website

The one we have listed are an Omega Chinese import. I looked at all my suppliers for a Denso, Delco or Visteon unit and no one had them available. Four Seasons did not even list a new unit. I know the requirements Omega goes through when importing items. If I were to use an chinese import these would be the guys I would buy from. I'm not saying that because they our one of our vendors. I can buy from the same people most other sites use. I prefer the quality and support Omega provides us and have for many years.
