first ac job. how did i do? 1996 gmc k1500

Year: 1996
Make: gmc
Model: k1500 sierra XC
Engine Size: 5.7
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 82
Pressure Low: 30
Pressure High: 270
Country of Origin: United States

i just replaced EVERY part to my ac system. i have lived in texas without ac for 2.5 years now and i was tired of it. anyway i just got everything back together. this is my first time working on the ac system. i pulled vac down to 30 for 30 minutes. let it sit for 10 minutes. no loss. vac'ed again for 30 minutes and another 10 min wait. no loss. charged with 32 oz via a scale of 134a and .25 oz of die. i ran the truck at 2000 rpms and check pressures. i got 30/270. im using a sanden compressor. i didnt see any leaks with the uv light. temp outside was 82 and the vents were 50 on max with doors open, 82% humidity with sprinkles. when i drove the truck around the block i got the vent temp down to 45. so how does my specs look. are they what they should be at? when i took the gages off the needles were still at pressure and when i bleed them i got some spray of coolant/die. should i shoot in some more 134a to compensate the loss of the manifold? as i said this is my first time and dont know too much but am very mechanically inclined. hopefully it will still work next week. when i bought the truck in 2001 they had replaced some ac parts and the ac quit a week later on my trip to alsaska. since i didnt need it there i didnt worry about it. well texas is a lil bit hotter and my girlfriend was hot and not in a good way .

Looks good but.... when was the last time you changed the fan clutch?? Give it this test, spray a mist of water on the condenser while the gauges are hooked up..If the high side drops like a stone, you have an airflow problem..If it drops gradually, it's fine.. A mist of water, not a quick wet down... Otherwise it looks fine..You can add back a couple ounces if need be, feel the inlet and outlet of the evaporator..When they are the same temp, or the outlet a few degrees colder than the inlet, it's full.. Hope this helps..

well i hooked up the gauges and added a lil more 134a. i think i added a lil too much though. i pretty much emptied the rest of the can. puttin it at around a 36oz charge. what i have read is it suposed to be at 32oz. i was getting around 27/250 at 2000 rpms 80 degrees. im no where near the 320 that i see posted. the vent temp was at 50 degrees with 80 outside. i sprayed water on the condenser with my garden hose on mist and it went down to 230 on the high side. it didnt drop quick but gradual. the mechanical fan is running but enough???? should i replace the clutch?

the pressure was at 100psi when i hooked up the gauges and about 70 when the equalized to take them off. the truck had been ran off and on all afternoon when i hooked them up. is the psi a gauge on if the system is fully charged or not. what static psi should i look for?

The pressures are netter, as far as static pressure it will be around what the air temp around the system is.. 100 degrees out, static will be close. A warm engine will raise the static pressures, but all static pressure means is you have liquid refrigerant in there, because a 12 ounce can will have the same static pressure as a 30 lb cyclinder.. But it would help you find out if there was air in the system, out of refrigerant etc... As I said above, run the ac for about five minutes and feel the inlet and outlet of the evaporator..Should be the same temp.. To get the vent temps down, close your windows and lower the fan setting with Ac on max..should drop on lower fan settings.. If need be, recover and add back the exact factory amount, stopping when the inlet and outlet of the evap are the same.. Just make sure you have the 32 ounces in there...Hope this helps..
