I was out in my garage playing around with my gauge set and vacuum pump when I noticed that the gauges weren't holding a vacuum. After further investigation I discovered that the quick disconnect leaks. Is there a repair kit that I can get for it?

What brand of gauges and couplers?
-------------------------
Master cool # 66773 I bought from you a few years back, with the snap on couplers.

Mastercool does make a repair kit that you can use, the link to that is:
ADAPTER KIT
It is part# 85200. If you are interested in the kit, it will have to be a special order and you are looking at spending more than if you were to just replace the couplers themselves. Here is the link to the couplers we provide:
Economy Couplers
Let us know what you think, or if you have any further questions.

Robs, thanks for the heads up. New couplers may be what I need.

Check out Mastercool manual couples, the second down. They have the thumb wheels and cost a little more but are really the best. E-mail the guys at Ackits.com and get a price on those if you can go the extra bucks.. Maybe it's just me, but I like the best...
They used to list them, but I can't find them on the site..getting old I guess...:9

Chick it is funny you posted that as I been trying to get stuff clean off my desk. One is the note to add the "professional" r12 conversion couplers to the site.

you're slacking off tim... Hey, mastercool cleaned up their site too, can't find half the stuff they used to have...

Thanks Chick. Hey Tim, you have those couplers that Chick is talking about?

At this time I do not have the 82934-E or 82834-E couplers in stock. I will work on adding these today. I just received a Mastercool stocking order this week. So it will be a few weeks before I have these in stock.

Ok, I'll check back then.

They will be on our next stocking order with Mastercool.
Professional R12 hose to R134a Service port couplers

How do they work? Do they snap on or do they clamp on when you turn the top wheel?

They snap on like the others, then you turn the thumb wheel just until you open the shrader. They fit all the cars, as I'm sure you've read where some cars are hard to depress the shrader valves. These work on them all for me anyway.. And you just turn the wheel until the shrader is depressed, so you don't risk pressing to hard on some...And when done, you can isolate the high side while you pull the refrigerant in the hoses into the low side... Just better is all I can say...Hope this helps..

OK, now I have another question. Can you charge liquid just through the low side? If that is possible than I really don't need to worry if the high side coupler leaks if I close off the high side at the gauge before charging? Does that sound viable?

Yes you can, but you still need to monitor the high side pressures, and you can't charge liquid into the compressor, accumulators are fine, and ports far enough away from the compressor etc...Just have to be careful. Personally I won't charge a system without knowing "both" pressures as it goes along.. I don't like surprises...
