20yr old cans of R12 OK?

Wayne on Tue December 18, 2007 10:08 PM User is offline

Year: 1983
Make: Porsche
Model: 944
Engine Size: 2.5
Refrigerant Type: R12

I can get 3 12oz cans of R12 that are 20 years old. Is this likely to be OK?

Yes.

Actually, I think I have a few that old as well, some are 14 oz. I'm down to one vehicle that uses R-12 so some day I'll need to sell my excess.

Thanks, I'll buy it since I still have 3 vehicles on R12.

Ha, what about buying a 20 year old girl? Or is that too old also? Actually have two for sale, one is 19 and the other is 24. As long as the can are not rusty, should be okay, but not sure about putting 20 year old R-12 in a 25 year old car, may be too much for your car. Can you find some R-12 that is more like 30 years old?

Max (the Porsche) prefers younger women and much younger freon. The cans only have a light patina of rust on the top; looks OK from that point of view.
