Converting A POA/XPV system to Orifice Tube

VoodooBlade on Tue April 01, 2008 11:09 AM User is offline

Year: 1970
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Camaro
Engine Size: 35 CI
Refrigerant Type: 134-a
Ambient Temp: 90
Country of Origin: United States

Has anyone ever converted a POA / Expansion Valve system to Orifice tube?

I Have a 1970 Camaro with the POA style system. the Evap housing is the same up until around 79 - 80 which have Orifice tube style systems.
I am thinking about dropping a newer evap in and plumbing the car for OT style. Anyone done this or have any tips?? I really don't think there will
be a problem but you know how that goes.

If not I guess I'll post my progress here.

Nope... but I've restored an OT converted system back to VIR (technically EEVIR) when the vehicle owner was unhappy with cooling performance with a "VIR eliminator." Surprise, surprise.

Why do you want to downgrade the performance of the far superior stock system?

As Joe said, the clutch-cycling orifice tube setup is a step down. The only reason GM did that was to make things cheaper. Have the CCOT in my '80 A body (same a/c as F body) and I can tell you it's no fun to have the A6 clicking on and off down the highway. Would much prefer to have the system you do.

OK cool. I was just trying to clean up the engine compartment. So I need to decide if I want cold a/c or neto engine compartment.
Thanks for the info.

Sorry for the blank posts Im a noob.
