Will an R-12 R/D work when converting to R-134a

Year: 1992
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Caprice
Engine Size: 305
Refrigerant Type: r-12

I am converting my car (92 Olds Custom Cruiser, Same as a caprice) From R-12 to R-134a. The system leaks form every O ring except at the evap.

My big Question is the receiver Dryer. Its an AC delco and They only list one part number, Im not sure if it will work with R-134a or not and I may return it because of this fact. I could fit a 94-6 Caprice R/D w/ a r-134a system on it and it would fit if that is necessary.
Does anyone think it would work? Is the desiccant compatable?

Also, After I evac. the system, Being that I belive just about NO R-12 exists, (The compressor has a really short on-off cycle now, and oil is allover the O ring connections) Cleaning out all the old mineral oil should be easy right? Someone told me I could just blow out the lines because Hardly no R-12 is in the system.

Let me know Thanks.

I would not use an R12 accumulator with R134a, you can get the right one right here for a very reasonable price. Also, using the later GM accumulator may not work, as most companies went to metric threads when they changed to R134a, but I'm not 100% sure on that. You can check by looking for grooves in the fittings, they are metric, the standard will be smooth no grooves on the large nuts..Hope this helps..

Oh the memories....I just rebuilt an R-4 on a '93 Caprice last night-- put in all new shell o-rings and a new double lip seal- and cleaned it up and re-installed-- vacuumed and put in 3.25 lbs R-12- boy it was nice to work on one that I cut my teeth on-- it sure did cool good--- gotta love those wheel wells on the new B-body style '93.... It was for a retired handicapped military man- it is to be his "press" car he said

BY THE WAY-yours is an A/D not R/D--- big difference....

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
