Compressor has wires of sensor cut off short

cooldude on Sat May 24, 2008 2:35 PM User is offline

Year: 1993
Make: Toyota
Model: Camry
Engine Size: V6-3VZFE
Refrigerant Type: R-12

I bought a replacement compressor from AMA. It is the correct compressor but my problem is with the wiring. The paperwork says that the supplier does not manufacture switches, connectors, brackets or manifolds and cannot guarantee such parts. Fine, I can move over brackets and even splice wires for my connectors. Problem is there are two wires coming out the bottom of the compressor which look to be the output of a non-removable sensor (they are potted in) and the wires on my replacement are cut very short (about half an inch). I was thinking that if I am to splice these wires that they would give me more to work with. Are these unimportant or unused wires? Tried to call AMA today but they must be closed.

Thanks!!!!!

Barry

That is correct, you need to remove the switch from your old compressor and put it in the new one. The reason for that is if you had a compressor you thought was bad, but it was the switch, they can't (the reman companies) warrant that.. When changing the switch over, it would pay to use a new O ring..Hope this helps..

Nice response! Well stated what we have to deal with at times with these builders. I would prefer they just insert a blank plug. But that would add cost and we know everyone is out to save a buck these days.
