Probs with 1999 Explorer A/C Fan Controls

Year: 1999
Make: Ford
Model: Explorer
Refrigerant Type: 134a

Having just completed an A/C overhaul project on my 1987 911, my friends now think I'm and A/C expert - right!

Friend has a 1999 Ford Explorer with the following symptoms. He states that the system cools OK but the problem is that the fan will operate only at the lowest or the highest fan speed - nothing in the middle. sound familiar to anyone?

Many thanks!
Mark

Google search indicates that the blower motor resistor is the likely culprit. Looks to be a common problem. Does this sound correct?

Thanks!

Ok I picked up the part from the dealer. Looks like it is bolted to the evap fan housing. Can anyone direct me to its location and advise if access is easy or if stuff needs to be removed to get to it. Pic would be great if anyone has one.

I took a quick peek on my 2002 Mountaineer assuming is use the same blower resistor and could not find evap location. On the Mountaineer it looks like things need to be removed to get to it.

Thanks!

Mark
