Cadillac STS

Year: 2005
Make: Cadillac
Model: STS
Country of Origin: United States

A friend has a 2005 Cadillac STS. He said when he turned the A/C on, the dash gauges started blinking and then the engine just up and quit. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks!

Sounds like a seized compressor.

Dont turn on the A/C anymore untill the problem is fixed as the locked down compressor can cause the serpentine belt to break.

Verify by turning the compressor clutch plate by hand, with engine not running , if you cant turn it then the compressor is locked down.

He said he drove it last night and the compressor didn't cut off. Any more ideas? Would the compressor lock up intermittently? Thanks!

He is going to need to have it scanned. May be something other than the compressor, could be a dozen things with those electrical systems. No reason to guess, any codes that occurred when that happened will still be in the computer and can be retrieved...

If it's not a seized compressor (which tends to be permanent), could be a real fundamental problem like bad connection at the battery or a ground wire. The extra draw of the A/C caused the whole electrical system to go down.
