gryt57 on Thu July 17, 2008 3:21 PM User is offline

Year: 1996
Make: GMC
Engine Size: 6 Cyl
Refrigerant Type: 134a

Help needed as to why A/C is only blowin thru the defroster vents, was working fine several days ago. I tried all the controls for a/c moving back and forth still just comes thru defrosters. Car is a 1996 GMC Jimmy not sure if these came with auto climate control, but this is manual controls.

Thanks, Gary

Check your main vacuum under the hood. I think this model has a vacuum ball mounted on the hood on the driver side. This vacuum hose likes to pop off the vacuum tank or it could be broken. Hope this helps and good luck! !

Is this truck a 4x4? If so are the vacuum hoses gooey?

The rear trans seal in the 4x4 trucks fills the transfer case up with trans fluid. Then the trans fluid gets sucked into the vacuum hoses which ruins them.

Gotta pull the plug on the transfer case ocasionally to let it drain out the overfill.

If yours is 2wd forget that I said anything.
