1999 Explorer with dual A/C question

BugMan on Mon July 21, 2008 12:58 PM User is offline

Year: 1999
Make: Ford
Model: Explorer
Refrigerant Type: R-134a
Country of Origin: United States

Does this car have an expansion valve or OT? If OT, where is it at.....a diagram/picture would be nice. Is it normal for the compresor to cycle every 15 seconds with a 90 deg ambient? My quess is a clutch gap problem.....is this a common issue with '99 Explorers?

Mucho Thanks.

Thanks Bugman!

This is actually my vehicle that Bugman is inquiring about and it is a 1999 Expedition.

This is my thread here:

http://www.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=339234

The AC wont cool like it should.

I am attempting to eliminate the blend door issue but have no success locating the heater hose. I have a smorgasborg of hoses in my engine compartment due to 3 different sets of climate controls (front, mid, rear). I purchased the alldata but the schematics are lacking in this area.

Anyhow any help would be appreciated!!

O tube, look for three crimps in the line, either in the evap inlet or the condenser outlet. Don't have a pic of the expedition, but I'll post one of a Ford..

This one will have to do for now, but it will be near a connection and the three crimps stop it from traveling down the line.. Hope this helps..

This is from an astro van, but the crimps usually look the same..

Hey Chick,

Since this is a dual A/C, will there be an OT at each evap or just 1 OT? Also, what about the drier, 1 or 2?

Generally, Ford uses O tubes in their dual air systems, (not even sure if the expedition uses dual air..) exceptions of course, but I am not familiar with the expedition.. Look at the line going into the rear evap, the O tube will be in the inlet, or you'll be able to see an expansion valve if one is used..Hope this helps..
