2000 Durango issue

Mattb on Fri August 22, 2008 11:13 PM User is offline

Year: 2000
Make: Dodge
Model: Durango
Engine Size: 5.9
Refrigerant Type: R-134A
Ambient Temp: low 80s
Pressure Low: 20
Pressure High: 235
Country of Origin: United States

Hi all,

I am having a strange issue with this vehicle. It is giving approximately 52°F at the center vent at 1500 RPM.

Given the low side, I tried adding refrigerant After adding a few ounces, the compressor would start to cycle quickly then absolutely nothing.

After evacuating a small amount, performance would return to where it was initially. It's like it just wont take anything, and the measurements tell me it needs a more
refrigerant to get the output into the low 40's.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

First things first, you have to know you have the correct charge level. Reclaim - pull a vacuum - recharge to OEM specifications. Adding a little here and removing a little there just makes a mess of things when trying to diagnose a system.

Thanks TRB. I suppose you can't always top them off.
