leak detector

If you needed a leak detector, would it be worth while to pay extra to get a heated diode leak detector?
Thanks

We all have our preferences for leak detectors, but here is A good one with heated diode that is very reasonable and used by dyer's as well as Pros.. When the time comes to replace mine, I would most likely buy this one.. But "any" is better than none... hope this helps..

Soap and water would be better than some tiff models I have seen!!!!! Test equipment does no good if it provides a false reading. How much has one saved it they get false reading and lose all their refrigerant. Do this more than once and I doubt you will have saved anything going el cheapo!

Some say that the leak detectors with the heated diode are much much more sensitive to finding a smaller leak.
Has anyone that has used both kinds know about that?
Thanks

I use both the H10p and Tek-mate. I use the Tek-mate first and then zero in with the H10. They both have never failed me. I am hearing that the Fieldpiece infared is the latest. I just do not care for rechargable batteries. The Tek-mate used regular type D cells. The H10p is a rechargable but I also have a power supply that allows me to connect top 120volts.

We have 'tested' many different detectors...and personally prefer the heated diode unit. This unit meets the new standards set forth by the EPA. Just received one of the infra-red units and must say, that it is heads above others that we have played with. The serious down side is the cost of the newer infra-red units. Give them a bit of time and when the price comes down...then go for it!
This is one area where the best does cost a bit more...and like TRB states....how many false readings are too many???
We have used many CPS products over the years and have had no serious issues with the quality of this company's products. I was in their manufacturing facility last week for a meeting concerning the development of a new product and while there noticed many pallets of vac pumps. These like many other companies products were imported. The folks at CPS were opening each box, removing the pump and testing each one. They are a very quality conscience company.

I use a tiff 5500. It's fairly cheap on ebay, and replacement tips have been cloned by the chinese and can be had for 3/$20 - less than any other make. This unit has found every leak I ever searched for.

I used many Tiff products over the years and they are of poor quality in my opinion. As for Ebay, yep lots of good deals on Ebay. Also a lot of stolen items to go along with those cheap prices.
