Year: 1996
Make: jeep
Model: cherokee
Engine Size: 4.0
Refrigerant Type: r-134
Ambient Temp: 70
Pressure Low: 22
Pressure High: 225
Country of Origin: United States
I installed a completely new system in my 96 cherokee originally a 134 system still a 134 system.. I added specified oil 75% to comp 25%to drier. Drew down vacuum for 30 min with pump on then tested with pump off for 45 min no loss of vacuum. Followed all guidelines specified in the evac and recharge posting on this forum. total of two 12oz cans into system. FSM states 32 oz is system capacity? A friend told me that a 12oz can is equal to 1 lb(16oz)?? So I only put in 2 cans. I have alot of foam /bubbles in site glass still
ambient temp 70'F
middle dash vent after 5 min comp engaged =44'F chart states 38-46'F normal
low side=22 range in chart is 18-30
high side=225 range is 150-220
So is my friend right about bottle weight?
Should I put 8oz more into system?
Bubbles ever go away at that ambient or w/134a?
Thanx
12 ounces is 3/4 of a pound. 16 ounces = 1 lb tell your friend to study up some more

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
Thats what I thought. He went into some theory on expansion of a compressed liquid. Anyways looks like I could add some more? High side isn't to high?
Thanks
Its not liquid, it is a gas (smoke), and when it expands in the lungs, it confuses the brain.

Sorry, I just could not resist.
Yes, there are liquids that confuse the brain also.
Phase change aside (gassing), a liquid cannot be compressed. Hydraulic principles 101.

thanx for the help
I added 8oz as per my scale
Still have bubbles in site glass.
engine at 2000rpm
ambient = 92'f
center vent after 5 min w/comp engaged 44'f
lp=28
hp=340-360
it works good enough for me, the hp side scares me, FSM says 315 for hp?
Does it look ok to you guys?

Check under the hood for a sticker stating the system amount and put that much in..Don't run your system until it's full, as the oil travels with the refrigerant, and a low system won't properly move the oil.. As stated, an ounce is an ounce, 16 of them make a pound, doesn't matter if it's milk or oil... Always go by the underhood sticker, may be on the underside of the hood, FSM second..(there have been cases of underhood stickers being wrong, but I've never seen it on a jeep..)
Also check fan operation, should be running full speed at those temps, (if an electric fan is installed with the engine fan) clean the condenser and make sure the area between the condenser and radiator are clean..

Thanks

I like liquids that confuse the brain....never did the 'gas' thing....but sure did enjoy the liquid part.....but in the old age...this has changed to a good ole cold Coke....diet....no caffine.....and the brain is still confused.....must be all the freon sniffin over the years...opps...there goes the 'gas' thing.....

So I am assuming that my pressures and temp drop are all good, since no one has told me otherwise. Thanks for the help, I will pass on the humor to my "wise" friend! lol
