Refrigerant Type: r-12
Country of Origin: United States

what replacements are there now for r-12 that do not require an oil change and do not harm the system in long run.

There are currently only two used a mobile A/C, R-12 and R-134; and they do require different oils.

The approved substitutes tended to not work as well as pure R-134a, so it is best to change the oil and run R-134a. This also has the advantage that the refrigerant is cheap and widely available, and everyone can work on the system. Very few shops now will deal with anything other than R-134a or R-12.
