high side pressure

stevey88 on Thu April 16, 2009 6:38 PM User is offline

Year: 1987
Make: VW
Engine Size: 2.1
Refrigerant Type: r12
Pressure Low: 10
Pressure High: 150
Country of Origin: United States

After charging, I tried to wait for the high side pressure to come down before I disconnect the gauge. It seem that it take a life time to come down. I end up bleeding it to the low side using the gauge. Is my expansion valve blocked? the car does blow cold but not that cold.
Thanks for any answer.

Pressures of 10 and 150 would seem to indicate undercharge. I would generally think 30 psi low and 220-250 psi high if your outside temperatures are at least 70F. For me, mine have always taken a while for high side to drop down in pressure.
