Year: 1981
Make: Ford
Model: Granada GL
Engine Size: 3.3L
I am giving my 81 Granada a major service which will require removing the old lawn-mower style compressor. My plans are to recover the refrigerant, install a new dryer, then recharge with R134a.
From what I can see, these old Ford units have no oil in the refrigerant circuit, but a sump for the compressor. Are there any gaskets or seals that should be changed on this old thing or just drain/fill the oil sump? The system is tight and doesn't leak refrigerant. The compressor has some filth on it from years of service. Otherwise fine.
What oil would you use? It is easy to fill?
