HIGH Vent Temp: What gives??

TIMSPEED on Mon April 27, 2009 1:14 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1997
Make: Saturn
Model: SL2
Engine Size: 119
Refrigerant Type: R134a
Ambient Temp: 75º
Country of Origin: United States

OK, so I didn't have the guages on it, because my high-side coupler is fubar, but I was adding R134a using the low side, and I'm SURE I've got at least enough in there to be NEARLY full.
My question is, my vent temps are straight 90º!!! I mean, on my other car, I was about 12oz low, and the vent temps were still low/mid 70's, this is retarded!
I'm thinking my TXV isn't doing it's job of letting the cold liquid go through the evaporator.
Does this sound about right? I know the compressor can't be culprit, because this is the second one I've tried.
Aside from the compressor, the TXV is the only other part of the A/C system that has moving parts, correct? (Evaportator and Condensor are just like a radiator basically; nothing really to fail on them)

Could be undercharged, overcharged, air in the system, bad TXV, compressor not pumping.. You need both pressures, and I would advise recovering and recharge the system amount into a deep vacuum to properly diagnosis the system..Hope this helps..

Well, if I'm going to recover/recharge, then for the piece of mind $40 will get me, I'll toss on a new TXV.
It COULD be undercharged, but even so, it would be cooler than 90º I would think...There's no air, for sure, vacuumed it down really well prior to charging. Compressor has to be pumping, as it would be a slim chance for TWO to be bad...
Going to put a new TXV Valve on, then vacuum/recharge...see where that takes me.
