First post! BTW, great site, lots of smart ppl and tons of info. Onto my issue..
I converted from R12 to R134a and after sucking it down to 29hg I re-charged the system. After I removed the first can from the low-port, the schrader valve got stuck open awhile the compressor was running and it started sucking and blowing air. I grabbed a screwdriver and quickly fixed the schrader valve and proceeded to charge the system with the remaining cans. Was this the right thing to do or should I have had the system re-evacuated and then re-charge it again? It seems to be blowing cold and working good. Am I headed for failure?
Thanks and any help is appreciated.
If the system had positive pressure and you kept filling it, I don't think you'll have a problem, but if it sucked air in, you need to evacuate and recharge properly. Also list pressures if you have them along with the ambient temp..hope this helps.
