Ceramic Shaft Seal Replacement

jaghobbies on Sun May 10, 2009 5:18 PM User is offline

Year: 1994
Make: GMC
Model: Jimmy
Engine Size: 4.3 L
Refrigerant Type: R134
Country of Origin: United States

I have a 1994 GMC Jimmy and I was going to replace the compressor shaft seal on my air conditioning. The problem I have is that I'm considering replacing the stock lip seal with a ceramic seal. The question is do I need to pitch the spring washer and wear washer and place the spring plate against the shaft or do I keep the washers in?

Thanks,
Jim

I am not sure you can use the ceramic seal on the newer R4 compressors, (Gm tech will be along, and will know) in my opinion I'd use the GM double lipped seal on that, here's a link to changing seals in GM compressors maybe it will help you with the ceramic seal, but I would still use the double lipped seal in that..Hope this helps..

What part number do I want for the lip seal? Where do I get it?

Thanks,
Jim

I get mine from Ackits.com part number 21-34734 for the seal only, you can e-mail the guys at info@ackits.com for the number for the kit which comes with the snap ring seal etc.. Hope this helps..

Ackits.com has the Shaft seal kit listed on their site, and it's less than half the price you would pay from your GM dealer.. Hope this helps..
