How do you measure fitting sizes?

booksix on Mon May 18, 2009 11:24 PM User is offline

I just removed a springlock fitting between the evap core and the accumulator using my quick disconnect tool marked 3/4". But, for some reason, when I look at the specs for the inlet and outlet for this same accumulator on Autozone.com and it says 5/8"! What gives? Are the fittings rated by the inner diameter of the female fitting and the tools rated at the outer diameter?

Open the fitting PDF in this link. There are basically just a few size fittings with different connections.
