accurate charging with cans solution?

LH123 on Wed June 03, 2009 12:47 PM User is offline

I have a very accurate digital diet scale that can read fractions of an ounce. I'm wondering if that would work if I 'tare' the can and tap and hose with an empty one and check the weight every so often. THe scale will stay on if the weight changes.

Right now I have a can + tap with about 75% of the contents, it weighs 14 oz.

I can compensate 2oz for the long manifold hoses (like the machine) and I use warm water so the can will provide 10oz

Does this make sense?

you can use any scale, but get as close as possible, then add an ounce or two more, and depending on what type system (O tube or expansion valve) you can also check by feeling the inlet and outlet of the evap, on O tube systems the outlet will be slightly colder when properly charged..

Also, The guy who charged my house a/c said he never uses a scale, he said if you know the correct temperature and lo/hi pressure you could never go wrong.

Not all houses are alike-- all cars of the same body style are.....so the work (charge level) has already been optimized for you-in a wind tunnel under ALL conditions- take advantage of that....and you can't go wrong!!

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
