How much oil to add

70rustrunner on Wed June 10, 2009 10:53 PM User is offline

Year: 1966
Make: Ford
Model: Mustang
Engine Size: 289
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: 90
Country of Origin: United States

I acquired a 1966 Ford Mustang with factory air. Previous owner said it worked great until hose broke. He replaced the hose but did not recharge. I pulled a vacuum on it and it held for 12 hours. My plan is to replace the receiver dryer, pull a vacuum on the system and recharge. My only question is how much if any oil to add and what kind. Thanks.

Couple ounces since your replacing the accumulator. That's the best guess since you don't know how much oil was lost if any with the defective hose.

A 1966 Mushbang should have a York type compressor on it. You check the oil with a dipstick.

Mineral oil 525 if you are using R12.

Here is a link to the compressor service manual:

The oil checking procedure is in there.
