1998B Buick Lesabre GM - add more r134a ?

rkpatt on Sun June 21, 2009 7:01 AM User is offline

Year: 1998
Make: Buick
Model: Lesabre
Engine Size: 3.8
Refrigerant Type: r134s
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 35
Country of Origin: United States

The A/C in my 1998 Lesabre is working but not up to the level of cooling that it is has in the past . The lowest temperature I can get out the vent with the fan on setting and at 2,000 rpm is is about 48-50 degrees F ( on a 90 deg F day ) . The low side pressure R134A measured with one of those fill kit gauges is 35 psi . How much more is it safe to add to get the optimal cooling performance ? - Thanks

The only "safe" way is to have the system recovered, and recharged to the proper factory amount into a deep vacuum, check for leaks on the body seams of the compressor and shaft seal. Adding refrigerant without "Both" pressures can ruin your system, and don't add anything with sealers of O ring lubes etc.. Just R134a only.. hope this helps..

Everyone should print out what Chick posted, and tape it to his own forehead every time he goes out to investigate a malfunctioning AC system.
