Need an A/C system for a 1965 mustang

Maccer on Sun June 28, 2009 9:07 AM User is offline

Year: 1965
Make: Ford
Model: Mustang
Engine Size: 200
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States

This is a resto'd 1965 mustang coupe. The original '65 200 straight six engine has been replaced with a 1978 200 straight six from a maverick or possibly a fairmont. I have the original A/C compressor that came with the '78 engine but its not hooked up to anything... I just routed two belts over the pulleys and the car was licensed and titled in Oct '08... my son has been driving it since that time. Im ready to install A/C but ive heard the old York unit which is in the car is sub par and that another unit such as a sanden would be better at cooling. The old unit ran R12, but i want 134a. I have the underdash-style evap unit with registers in my garage in bad shape, but im going to clean it up and re-use it. I have a source for new registers.

What I would like to ask the group here is what I need to order.. as some of the original A/C parts were missing when i bought this car 3 years ago. I have a vaccuum pump that I purchased from AMA about 2 years ago and i have the underdash unit. I know I'll need new: hoses, compressor, evaporator, condensor, dryer and gauge. What else? Thank you.

New sanden compressor

Thanks for supporting us in the past. I'm sure if you give Jack a call Monday we can help with the items you may need to get this running. I would use the Seltec over the Sanden as the adapter plate works with both compressors.
