Year: 1996
Make: Chevy
Model: Silverado
Engine Size: 5.7
Refrigerant Type: r-134a
I have a 96 Chevy Silverado with a leak in the A/c. After recharging it , it goes for a day or so, then the compressor starts turning off and on intermitently until it stops all together. I beleive there is a leak, although I have been unable to locate it. Is there a seal with in the compressor that is a common problem with these GM compressors? Do yo have any other advice?
Thanks
Yea there is. 1996 was the first year for the HT6 compressor and they have a housing seal leak issue. May also check the service ports on top of the compressor for leaks.

Yes check service ports on top, common for the valves to leak with time, easy fix too just R&R. change O tube also before final recharging.

Check all connections for signs of oilily dirt, front for compressor for possible shaft seal leak, and the compressor itself as shown below for signs of a belly leaker.. Hope this helps.
