Not Freezing Evaporator, Leaking Compressor Instead

knightgang on Fri July 31, 2009 3:16 PM User is offline

Year: 1997
Make: Olds
Model: Cutlass
Engine Size: 3.1
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 75
Pressure Low: 35
Pressure High: 210

Well, it turned out not to be a freezing Evap Core. When I got my gauges, found the high side to be extremely low. Upon closer inspection, found a BAD belly leak in the V5 compressor thanks to the leak dye installed a few days before. So, off to the parts store I went.

Now, a remaned compressor, new accumulator and new OT, nice flush out, vacuum and recharge, she is blowing 40deg sitting in the driveway and down to 35 during a 5 mile test drive.

A special thank you to the guys that visit this forum regularly to share their knowledge with the DIYers on here, and lets not forget the great sponsors for hosting a site like this.

Tim, next time I need parts and can detect an issue with some lead time to allow shipping, I will order through AMA...

Thanks again...

If your blowing 35 at the vents, make sure your evaporator isn't freezing.
