ac clutch

Year: 1998
Make: Nissan
Model: Altima
Engine Size: 2.4
Refrigerant Type: 12
Country of Origin: United States

It sounds like my ac clutch is slipping only when it comes back on, only a few seconds. I cannot buy an after market clutch kit, so my question is , what will happen if my clutch ran continuous, this would allow me to get around not having to buy a compressor /clutch, since it is the only way it is sold for my car. Will this harm my compressor or increase head pressure. There is what looks like a thermostat mounted on top of the compressor, can I jump the thermostat, or what would I jump to keep the compressor running. Is my idea good or bad, any other suggestions.

thanks roger

Check your clutch gap and see if it's about .02. If it's to wide it can cause slipping, the "switch" you're talking about is probably a thermal switch or RPM sensor (I don't have one in front of me to see) but I doubt it has anything to do with keeping your compressor running.. Also check the low and high side pressures, airflow (Fans) as they don't usually cycle except due to high pressure or low refrigerant.. Hope this helps.
