A/C question: 2008 Pontiac Torrent

Year: 2008
Make: Pontiac
Model: Torrent

I have a 2008 Pontiac Torrent with 5K miles on it. It's the base model with the 3.4L engine. I have a question about the A/C compressor duty cycle. At idle, the compressor kicks in for six seconds, then turns off for six seconds, then kicks in for six seconds, etc. It doesn't matter what the ambient temperature is. Whether it's 80 degrees or 110 degrees, it's six seconds on/six seconds off. Each time the compressor kicks in (with a loud click), the tachometer needle jumps and the headlights flicker. It's more of an annoyance than anything since I seem to be getting plenty of cold air. And I don't notice it at speed (it may or may not be happening then.) The dealer says this is normal even though it wasn't happening when the car was brand new. What do you guys think?

high pressure? dirty condenser, weak fans (poor air flow)? Refrigerant leak? Post some pressures?

I don't have the equipment or know-how to take the pressure myself. I took the car to the dealer, but the service manager at the dealer did not check the pressure because the temperatures at the vents were well within spec. He said he didn't need to go any farther, a 6-second duty cycle is normal. Even under all ambient temperatures. I simply want his response confirmed or refuted by someone who may know.
