2001 tahoe gurgling noise

Year: 2001
Make: Chevy
Model: Tahoe
Engine Size: 5.3l
Refrigerant Type: 134a

I just started noticing a very odd 'gurgling noise' from the engine compartment of my 2001 Tahoe. I've googled this and it IS NOT the heater core gurgling many people have reported from under their dash. This is a very hollow sounding air-like gurgle (kinda like putting your ear to the end of a 20' piece of pvc while someone is messing with the other end) and it comes from the general right/front of the engine compartment - around the compressor and the water pump. This Tahoe has 150,000 miles, and a new (not rebuilt) water pump with about 20k on it. The noise is noticeable at idle and I cannot tell if it is present at speed. Turning the AC on/off does not impact the noise, but obviously it is easier to hear the noise with the AC off.

Any thoughts if this is AC related?
