Service ports too close together

4.0_olds on Wed June 16, 2010 8:32 PM User is offline

Year: 2001
Make: Carraro
Model: TRX-6400
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Country of Origin: Italy

I'm working on my small farm tractor and the stupid service ports are too close together to get both couplings on at the same time. Is there an adaptor or some way around this problem?

Thanks

Not bad Nick, but I was thinking more about the lines and service ports...

Best photo I could find, did find others on the net, but very blurred. Had to purchase a right angle adapter for my Supra, wondered what the hell they were thinking when they mounted that. Or is thinking out of the question when dealing with servicing these things. Also asked that question on that stern drive boat I purchase, engine oil drain plug is about 3" above the bilge and almost impossible to get a wrench on it. I did find a drain type hose you can put though the boat drain plug hole. On practically any vehicle purchased today, the block coolant drain plugs are totally inaccessible.

We all had to buy thin wall sockets, do they even make thin wall couplers?

Thanks guys! I do have a pic at home that I will post. The tractor is located at my property a few hours away so I can only mess with it on the weekends.

Yesterday, I figured an easy way around the problem. The tubes are connected to the compressor by one of those single bolt arrangements. There is a small amount of rotational side play because of clearance for the bolt hole. If I spread the tubes while tightening the bolts it gives me just enough clearance so I can get both connections on at once. Talk about close and a poorly thought out design.

Ok, not sure if I posted a pic correctly but I loosened the allen bolts, pushed the pipes apart, and then re-tightened the bolts. This little bit of extra space allowed me to get both connections on at the same time.
