compressor noise

slls on Tue August 17, 2010 11:32 AM User is offline

Year: 09
Make: pontaic
Model: G6
Engine Size: 2.4
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States

When first starting AC the compressor makes a noise like a coffee grinder for 10 seconds some times, then stops. The car was in for a oil change and the dealer heard the noise.
The compressor is going to be replaced, been wondering what could cause this, 13K miles.

Liquid refrigerant...the new compressor will most likely do it as well......

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

slls,

My compressor sounded somewhat like an old coffee grinder this morning. It was the clutch chattering intermittently, caused by a loose wire connector on the compressor.

When the connection was touching and not touching fast, it made the clutch chatter.

Not saying that is what is causing your noise but it is something to check when there is an intermittent noise.

Quality is never an accident it is always the result of intelligent effort.
