Charged but minimal cooling

Year: 2001
Make: Dodge
Model: Ram
Engine Size: 5.9L
Refrigerant Type: 134
Ambient Temp: 85F
Pressure Low: 55psi
Pressure High: NA
Country of Origin: United States

Great site. I tried searching, but did not find my answer.

I just bought this vehicle used, the AC was slightly lower than ambient when I test drove it. The compressor was free and the clutch was cycling so I assumed it was low on charge.

I checked the low pressure line with the handy dandy recharge kit and have 55psi at appx. 85F ambient, (Max AC and appx 1000 RPM). The return line from the evaporator is cool. Can you point me in the next direction?

You need to give us the high side reading also. You may be able to rent a set of real gauges from Autozone. Hopefully, your "handy dandy recharge kit" did not have any sealer of snake oil in it.

Kind of figured you'd say that. No to the snake oil. I'll grab a set of gauges from work and get some more info. Thanks for the quick reply!
