some details please- like vehicle and/or compressor make and model........Sure it can be done, but why? Would you put in a used fuel pump in your gas tank? If you would, then I completely understand.....

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Maybe you can, I tend to wreck seals when I remove them, but why be careful? Perfect candidates for the trashcan. Just don't wreck the compressor seal bore or anything else you are planning on reusing.

Have this strange feeling the compressor in question is from a 1998 Dodge Neon, I haven't worked on a Chrysler product in over 35 years. But my son just purchased a Nitro with a detonator package. Or was it a Detonator with a nitro package. You see, I have a lot to learn.
