VIR Help

76TransAm on Mon April 11, 2011 6:32 PM User is offline

Year: 1976
Make: Pontiac
Model: Trans Am
Engine Size: 455
Refrigerant Type: 134-A
Ambient Temp: 82
Pressure Low: 43
Pressure High: ???
Country of Origin: United States

I need help with my Trans Am.

I bought the car already converted with new hoses and looks like a new VIR.

It had a leak which I fixed, then I evacuated it for 1 hour, and let it sit for an hour.

The system holds 3.75lbs of R-12 so I put in a little over 3lbs of R-134.

On a 80 degree day my center vent got down to 58.

The low side pressure was mid 40's.

I couldn't get the high side reading.

Every time I tried, my high side coupler would leak.

Shouldn't this system cool more than 58 degrees?

yes. Should cool down to mis 40's. Should have left it R12. Vir's unless you can get a hold of the POA that is actually an adjustable ERP, are calibrated for R12.
