pistol hot

Year: 1997
Make: Ford
Model: 350 van
Engine Size: V8
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 85
Pressure High: 85
Country of Origin: United States

System wasn't cooling at all and compressor clutch was engaging in and out every ten seconds or so. The high side quick connect was so hot I needed a hot pad to disconnect it. I added four ounces and the clutch stayed engaged but still won't cool. Is the compressor shot or should I empty the refrigerant and refill to specs and see how it behaves ? The last fill was done at a shop two years ago so I am assuming the fill was done correctly and it worked great till this year.
PS I thought the idea of recapture using an empty cylinder and a vacum pump was a fantastic idea and I can't wait to try it. What would be an ideal cylinder size ?

85 & 85 sounds like no pumping with a FS10 compressor. Question would be why are to lines so hot if the compressor is not working? Sure you have proper connections with your service guages?
