Evaporator freezes up if fan is not on high

Turbofiat on Sun July 03, 2011 7:58 AM User is offline

Just for learning experience. Bought me a 2008 Mustang GT so I'm selling my 96 Explorer to my stepson. He never uses the A/C so it's no concern to me.

Last summer I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my Explorer so I took it to an A/C tech. The orfice tube was clogged and the low pressure switch was bad. Afterwards the A/C works fine as long as the fan is on the fastest setting but if I run it on medium or low, the evaporator freezes up. If the A/C is on MAX A/C (recirc mode) it doesn't do it.

If I forget to change the filter in my heatpump the evaporator freezes up so I know poor air flow can cause this to happen.

I don't think there is a cabin filter in this vehicle . Could the blower fan be getting weak? Not pushing enough air through the evaporator?

Even if the airflow is weak, the LPCO should be cycling the compressor. Either the LPCO is bad or improperly adjusted.
