When the heat is needed, only Air Conditioning comes on

When calling for heat on a trane package unit only cooling comes on. The reversing valve has 24v and solenoid engage and disengage but will not slide, it seems to be stuck in defrost what do think it could be?

Sounds more like an HVAC heat pump problem than an automotive MVAC problem.

Want guesses like moisture in the system freezing up the reversing valve? How old is this system, sure getting a bunch of crap, even from brand names with components Made In China. Could be just a cheapass valve. Or maybe just too old.

Now I hear we are building large military bases in Australia, because China is a threat to us. Is good for corporations though to make a much greater profit, hell for the rest of us.

Some pretty darn good HVAC guys on this site, but it does strongly lack mind readers, need a lot more info, model, refrigerant, age..

Trane uses a reversing valve that is energized in cooling. The unit may be in the defrost mode. If not, disconnect the 24 volts to the valve when in heat mode. If the valve does not make the suction line going to the evap hot, give the valve a rap with the handle of the screwdriver as the valve may have gotten stuck. Actually, these reversing valves were quite trouble-free. You may also have a defective defrost board. Need more info; it's hard to see the unit from a keyboard. :-)
